Do you slow down in the summer or does your schedule fill up and become fast paced? When my children were home, we would have so many plans! But, I tried to include rest. A cool afternoon nap does wonders in this southern heat. I still seek rest everyday. I often lay with my dogs and listen to music or a podcast.
Even Jesus values rest. The Bible references dozens of times he actively withdrew to lonely places for spiritual rest and prayer. Since rest is important to God, it is important to us.
Rest restores your mind and body by lowering your nervous system's stress response, triggering cellular repair, and replenishing energy. It allows muscles to heal, rebalances vital hormones, clears cognitive toxins, and helps prevent burnout so you stay resilient.
Make it a goal to seek rest this summer away from the hustle, bustle and heat of the season. Just 30 minutes can refresh your mind, body and soul. You don't have to sleep to get rest. Dim the lights in your bedroom and read a book or listen to a podcast or music. Make sure your room is comfortably cool. Your children will appreciate a set rest time each day - even if they grumble about it.
I pray that you make rest a priority this summer and not get caught up in "Busy Culture".
