Sentimental value. I didn't realize that something would have such sentimental value to me. When my Grandma(Inez) passed away, I was able to keep her hollow glass rolling pin. Just knowing that she used this item with her own hands was special to me. After many years and several moves, I panicked because I thought I had lost a small piece of my family history.
Recently, I was preparing my guestroom for my eldest daughter and grandson to visit. I pulled a box out from under the bed and Voila! My Grandma's rolling pin sat at the top of the box! A picture was taken and texted to my daughters. I excitedly wrote - "Look what I found!" I felt like a family heirloom was restored.
Just as this heirloom fosters a sense of belonging to my family, I think of my Grandma's love and relationship with Jesus as a legacy of faith that she instilled in her children and grandchildren. This fosters a sense of belonging to a much bigger family - The family of God!
I loved singing this song in church growing up -
I'm so glad I'm a part of the Family of God,
I've been washed in the fountain, cleansed by His Blood!
Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod,
For I'm part of the family,
The Family of God
I must be mindful that I, too, need to leave a legacy that leads to God.
